Sadly, over the last few years Bayside has been hit by the biggest crimewave in Melbourne’s recent history.
We attend many of the properties after keys, cars and valuables have been stolen.
We have compiled a complimentary list of security tips for Bayside residents to help protect themselves and their property from break-ins, violence and theft.
- Lock all doors, garages and gates. All doors, garages and gates should be locked as often as possible. A large majority of the crimes being committed are made much easier by allowing the perpetrators easy access. If this is an opportunist, we must remove the opportunity.
- 2 x points of locking on doors and gates where possible. If brute force is used, a second point of locking on the door (extra patio bolt, latch or deadbolt) really slows things down and increases time on site/tools required. This is one of the cheapest ways of bulking up your security.
- Aim to keep high end/luxury cars out of view where possible. If cars are on the street or visible, using a club lock will slow down or stop any attempts.
- Keep your valuables in a high security safe. Instead of leaving your valuables in cupboards or lying around the house, keep them in a fire rated/insurance rated home safe. Having a good quality safe is an investment that you can keep forever. A place to keep your valuables and documents and protects from fire and theft. A good quality home safe that is bolted down and out of view is paramount to home security in this day and age.
- Faraday bags/boxes. Keep car keys and remotes in a faraday box/bag to block all signals from being picked up/relayed. Lots of cars and rollerdoors have been breached from the signals being scanned or cloned. Securing your keys and remotes in a Faraday bag protects from this method of theft.
- Think about getting a dog. Man’s best friend can also be a thief’s worst nightmare. A protective dog raises the alarm when an intruder attempts to access your property.
To provide the best security for Bayside residents, we now offer an on-site home security health check. This service involves meeting the client on site and walking through the property noting Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats. We will then provide you with a complete report with recommendations, quotes and contacts to get the most out of your home security.
